Film camp was born out of a mutual love of film and family photography by four unique artists who love to teach, connect, and find inspiration all around them. We wanted to create an intimate retreat by and for family photographers who shoot film or have an interest in shooting families on film to show you what’s possible.
With over 10 years combined experience shooting film, we believe we can capture families the most unique and authentic way with this beloved medium, and that others can too.
While film may have its limitations, it is also freeing and exciting. We believe there are no creative limits when shooting families with film, and that the key is finding your own voice and then doing the work. This is evident in our diverse photographic styles and provides a unique learning opportunity for you (with an extremely low instructor/attendee ratio!) all in one beautiful setting!
Sometimes we can have the biggest breakthrough and/or become the most creative in an intimate setting where we can connect and learn in a supportive and inspiring environment. So Film Camp is not just about learning. We foster connection, relaxation, and rejuvenation to feed the mind, body, and soul and help us become our most creative selves. Plus, hello Charleston!
We hope you can join us!

Hey there! I’m a family photographer, instructor and mentor based in Seattle. I’m a dreamer with crazy curly hair that I’ve only straightened once (and hated it). My passion for film photography started when I was quite young, spurred by my dad’s love for visual storytelling. I love to use my families’ cozy and familiar homes to create images that tell their story in an imperfect, yet raw and authentic way. I think perfection is boring, and I believe that real beauty and real bravery is rooted in letting go and embracing imperfection. I like to incorporate that element of storytelling in my work with families, with a twist.
I have become obsessed with using bounced flash in nearly every in-home lifestyle session. Flash doesn’t have to be scary nor will it change the vibe of a session. I see flash as an invaluable tool worth learning to help you be able to shoot in any situation regardless of how light or dark it is.
When I’m not photographing families I can be found playing with our fur-baby, eating tacos, or planning our next family adventure. Feel free to see more of my work here.
H E L L O everyone!!!
I am Jen and I am crazy EXCITED to be a part of this AMAZING group of talented photographers for Film Camp! On the chance you don’t know me already, here are a few things about me…
- I love film + bright colored photographs. Ektar is my favorite film and I will shoot it as much as possible, anywhere I can!
- I have been shooting film for 4 years and 100% exclusively for clients and personal work for over 3.
- I absolutely LOVE to travel, especially with my family (I have 4 kids), but I hate to fly. Terrified of it.
- I am a sucker for beach towns, street tacos and a great margarita.
- I love to teach and I am an open book on just about everything!
- I am a film lifestyle photographer based out of Chicago but I travel all over for sessions.
So that is me in a nut shell! I can’t wait for film camp; I feel like a kid getting ready for SUMMER CAMP again! It is going to be SO MUCH FUN! First of all, OREGON COAST!! YAY! Second, amazing house and crazy talented teachers (which I can’t wait to learn from)! Third, all the meeting all of YOU! I can’t wait to hang out, have fun, and learn something new too!
I am Savan, a modern fine art film wedding and portrait photographer living in the golden light state of California, Orange County to be exact. When I am not off photographing and witnessing couples saying their "I Do's" you can find me with my two young daughters and my husband, cooking or off on our next traveling adventures. I love the outdoors, wine, coffee ok mostly wine with a love affair of having great food and even better friends around me.
My philosophy is very simple and uncomplicated. I absolutely adore connection and telling your story through my lens. I don't need any props, or over the top sessions, what I do need is pure love and connection between my clients and I, and oh some pretty light. That human connection is so important and when that is found between client and photographer, its pure magic. My clients are classic, effortless, and thoughtful they will push the boundaries with creativity, and crave that heirloom experience, that will last a lifetime in each and every photo we make together
I bought my first DSLR a few months after my daughter’s birth almost ten years ago. We had just moved across Canada and I felt quite lonely. I was quite grateful for the companionship of my daughter AND my camera! Documenting all her ‘firsts’ was a great introduction to composition and photographing moving targets!
Thanks to baby naps and cluster feeding, I spent a lot of time on Flickr looking for inspiration and in all honesty, my first attempts at being creative were not terribly successful. I was trying ‘too hard’, but I knew what moved me: color.
During the first seven years or so, I tried many editing styles. Over that period, I probably bought all actions available on the market emulating the ‘look of film’. One day, I thought that it might be a good idea to try to actually SHOOT film and because I can be impulsive from time to time, I bought a cheap Nikon N80 on a whim. One roll and I was absolutely hooked.
More specifically, I fell in love with all the ways I can experiment with film: bold colors, different kind of lights, multiple exposure… nothing beats the thrill of soaking a roll in a concoction, opening the back of my camera to create some rad light leaks or using my Holga not knowing what image will come out.
Experimenting with film is the vehicle I’ve found to be heard and fight the dark areas of my soul. It fills me with color.
